Our Trip to LTC
On Tuesday, March 18, the eighth grade took a field trip to Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland, WI. The purpose was to experience the different career possibilities a technical school can offer. If any of the students finds him - or - herself interested in one of those opportunities, he/she can start taking classes in high school to work toward that goal. We had four different sessions, where an instructor gave us a glimpse into different careers. The first session my group had was a Tour of the Trade and Industry building. This area includes CAD, Auto Work, and Welding - among others. The second session was Public Safety. Here we learned about different careers responsible for keeping us all safe, like firefighting and HazMat. Some of the students got to try on different equipment at this session! Next we went to the EMT / Paramedic session, where we learned how a first responder or paramedic would deal with an injured person when arriving on a scene. Finally, we went to the Machine Tool area. Here we learned how machine operators make all sorts of parts for things out of metal, plastic, etc. We also learned that math is used heavily in this area! As I was the only one with a camera, all these pictures are of my advisory group.
